Replate.Org

Earlier this week Kitchen Communications interviewed one of the founders of Replate.org, an organization formed by two San Francisco designers who observed restaurant diners leave their doggy bags on top of public trash cans rather than toss them or relegate them to the back of the fridge where they’re forgotten until fuzzy and stinky. Immediately, these guys understood why people were doing this and who they were trying to help.

When I eat out I pointedly don’t finish my meal because the portions are often excessive, and I have to protect me from me when it comes to good food. I’m not proud to say this, but I’ve plowed through through too many over-sized meals. The gratification is fleeting. As soon as I come to my bloated senses, remorse sets in.

I’m happy to oblige Replate’s request to make the doggy bags accessible to the homeless. And that’s some very good motivation to only eat half of whatever I’m having.

On Replate’s website you can get ideas on how you can spread the word about this movement as well as get more information about a simple contribution to a complex problems.
